Smart Cycling Youth Clinic to be held at Health Foundation of La Porte

Calling all kids ages 6-12! Health Foundation of La Porte is inviting families to kick off the summer season by getting active outdoors at the Smart Cycling Youth Clinic on Saturday, June 11, from 10 am – 12 pm at Health Foundation of La Porte. The event is sponsored by Bob’s Bicycles in partnership with Health Foundation of La Porte, The League of American Cyclists, and PNC Bank, and will teach young riders smart cycling skills to practice this summer and beyond.

The Smart Cycling Youth Clinic is FREE and will be held outside in the parking lot at Health Foundation of La Porte, located at 140 East Shore Parkway, La Porte, IN 46350. Parking is available on site, although families are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event and enjoy a family ride on the beautiful Chessie Trail after the event! Registration is FREE and required for families. Participating youth ages 6-12 years and attending family members can secure their tickets through Eventbrite.

With the expertise of League Cycling Instructor David Heinold and area volunteers, our local youth will learn and practice several safe cycling skills. Safety stations include helmet fitting, bicycle safety, starting/stopping, riding in a straight line, avoiding hazards, balancing, scanning and signaling, and turning and yielding. Youth completing the skills clinic will receive a certificate of achievement, FREE helmet provided by PNC Bank (while supplies last), and several great giveaways. Water, Gatorade, and healthy snacks will be available for all in attendance.

Attendees of all ages are welcome, but participating youth must be ages 6-12 years and must bring their own bike. All youth must be accompanied by a parent/guardian ages 18 years or older during the entirety of the event. Participant waivers are required and will be available on site for a parent/guardian to sign on the day of the event.

If inclement weather occurs, the event will be postponed to Saturday, June 25, from 10 am – 12 pm.
